Based on students' concern and protest against the online examinations, Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to postpone JMI Odd Semester Exams which were scheduled to start from December 21, 2020, until further notice.
The online exam was supposed to take place in remote proctored mode. On December 11, several students protested outside Jamia Millia Islamia VC's office. Students are not in favour of online proctored exams, instead they suggested assignment based examinations or online open book examination.
Taking into consideration the problems raised by the students, the University decided to put the JMI odd semester exams 2020 on hold.
JMI also informed its decision of postponing the JMI exams to University regulator, i.e. University Grants Commission (UGC). The University has also discussed with UGC on how to move ahead with JMI odd semester exams. However, UGC directions are still awaited.
The official notice released by Jamia Millia Islamia reads, "The University has apprised UGC of the concerns of the students and the decision of the university regarding mode of conduct of examinations. The directions/ guidelines from UGC on the matter are sought and still awaited."
