Jharkhand: First Tribal University to be Established Near Jamshedpur; Details Here


Jharkhand’sTribal Affairs Minister and Vice-person of newly constituted Tribal Advisory Council (TAC), Champai Soren has announced that Jharkhand’s first tribal university will be established near Jamshedpur. 

The Minister said that the land for the establishment of the tribal university has been finalised and construction work will begin soon. The tribal university would be one of a kind state-owned tribal university in the eastern region, the report said. 

As per the reports, the issue of the tribal university was discussed in the second meeting of the council, chaired by Jharkhand’s chief minister Hemant Soren on September 27, in Ranchi. 

Champai Soren said that the main aim is to preserve and develop tribal language and its culture and also promote tribal scholars. The state government will shortly bring out an ordinance and constitute the university through an act, the report said. 

According to some sources from the chief minister’s office (CMO), it has been notified that over 20 acres of land have been recognized near Galudih, located at a distance of 35km from Jamshedpur city, for the first tribal university in Jharkhand. 

An official said that the land is very close to NH33, which connects Jharkhand with Bengal and Bihar - and would be ideal for tribal scholars from all the three states, the report said. 

The Council meeting was held for nearly four hours, where it was also planned to send a proposal on inclusion of a separate religious code for Sarna followers in 2021 census to President Ram Nath Govind through the governor Ramesh Bais. 

Recently, Arjun Munda, the Union tribal Affairs Minister, said that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to ensure equity and inclusion and it has given a national representation to the education of tribals.

Speaking at the webinar organised by the Ministry of Education, Munda said that Programmes like Digital India, Samagra Shiksha, etc are promoting students from rural and tribal areas to compete at the national level.
