JAC Board Exam 2021: Jharkhand Board Revises Marks Weightage

For matriculation, there will be 30% objective-type questions for each subject except science. Science papers will include 20% objectives, while 10% will be for practical exams.

For intermediate exams, there will be 40 objective-type questions. It is for the first time that the Education Department has decided to set exam pattern and weightage and then sent it to JAC for approval.

In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, schools have been shut and online education has almost disrupted the conventional method of studies. As a fact, the Jharkhand state government has curtailed 40% of the syllabus. Subsequently, matriculation and intermediate exam pattern and weightage were being decided for a revision.

As per the CBSE model, states like Rajasthan and Odisha have also decided to revise the weightage of marks. JAC will soon release sample papers for matriculation and intermediate exams. This will help students to be familiar with new and revised patterns.

Rahul Sharma, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, has asserted that as schools are closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, students could not attend offline classes. As such, allotting marks on internal assessment will be difficult and hence the reduction to 10 marks.

Previously only 20% of objective questions were included in matriculation every year. Such questions demand answers in one word or a single sentence. However, intermediate exams had 25% of questions as objective types.
