International Baccalaureate (IB) Board Exam 2021 has been cancelled in India for Grade-12 Diploma and Career-related Programmes in 185 affiliated schools. The decision was made in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases across the nation, IB Board said in an official statement.
The International Baccalaureate exam authority has made the decision soon after CBSE Board 2021 Exam postponed for class 12th, and cancelled for students of class 10th students, following a meeting of PM Modi with Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
IB Board Adopts Alternative Approach for Awarding Degrees
Students will now be promoted to the next class or will receive their school passing certificates based on the special assessment. International Baccalaureate (IB) Board Exam 2021 marks will be awarded based on their internal assessment (coursework) marks and predicted grades.
Referring to the coronavirus situation in the country, the IB spokesperson said, "We intend that the results of students in India for the Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme should be awarded using coursework marks and predicted grades for the May 2021 session, as described in the awarding model outlined in February".
"For the Middle Years Programme in subjects where there are normally on-screen assessments, students will be awarded results using the Alternative Assessment task,” IB spokesperson further added.
Students, parents, and teachers of International Baccalaureate affiliated schools are requested to contact their respected schools to get more information about IB May 2021 session.
Apart from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Board, many other state boards have also postponed their exams for class 12th students. CISCE Board is also expected to cancel its board examination, however, no official statement is released yet.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Board Exam 2021: Grade-12 Assessment Scheme
Earlier in February 2021, the exam authority of International Baccalaureate decided to go with a "dual-route approach" and see what decision will be best for its affiliated schools across the country. As per the "dual-route approach", the first approach was to conduct a written examination for students on safer ground by keeping in mind all safety measures.
The second alternative was to include the internal assessment coursework score of the students, along with teachers’ predicted grades to prepare the scorecard of the students. Hence, after analyzing the situation of second COVID wave in India, International Baccalaureate officially notified its affiliated schools on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, that the second approach will now be used to promote students.
