On Monday, August 09, 2021, NMC stated that medical colleges are responsible for paying the mentioned stipend to postgraduate medical students until the examinations are not over. The stipend will be offered to candidates till their services are available, the commission added.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the examination of medical colleges has been disrupted for about the last one and a half years, which has now put a lot of stress on medical students who were preparing to appear for their examinations.

As per the latest updates, the examination authority has also postponed the NEET 2021 Examination in order to ensure the safety of the students, which has further delayed the commencement of the fresh postgraduate medical batch for the year 2021.

The services were to be used till the arrival of a fresh batch of postgraduate students. The admission for the same has now been delayed due to the postponement of the entrance examination; NEET 2021

The advisory stated that students who are now offering their services in their colleges will be paid stipend and hostel facilities for the time being. However, the same has not been followed by various medical colleges.

NMC Post-Graduate Medical Education Board has received complaints from various medical students regarding the stipend. As per the complaints, students stated that medical colleges are refusing to pay the stipend even after their term is over.

Additionally, students of various medical colleges also alleged that colleges are withholding their documents without their consent.

Referring to the complaints received by the NMC, the advisory stated. "Unfortunately, we have received many complaints from students that many institutes are refusing to pay the stipend after their term is over and are also not relieving them".

"They are holding their documents. This is illegal. Hence this advisory is being issued," NMC added. The commission clearly stated that postgraduate students are to pay the mentioned stipend till their services are availed.
