New Delhi: A new research centre for cutting-edge defence technology requirements will soon be added to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee campus.
The Ministry of Defense gave the go-ahead for the new research centre at IIT Roorkee in accordance with India's aim to advance technology and achieve self-sufficiency in the defence industry. "DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence" will be the name of the building (DIA-CoE).
Facility that the DRDO will pay for
IIT Roorkee will have more opportunities and outlets to address "critical and futuristic defence technology requirements of the armed services" with the formation of the new research centre. The DRDO and the Indian government would provide financial support for the facility, according to IIT Roorkee..
The DRDO and IITR will cooperate to identify the research verticals, and the DIA-CoE IITR will enable and carry out interdisciplinary integrated fundamental and applied research in those areas. The Centre of Excellence (CoE) will also work in conjunction with academic researchers and faculty members at IIT Roorkee. , businesses, and other institutions in the nation in promoting and enabling cutting-edge defence technology research. It will feature staff and students from IITR, researchers from the DRDO, start-ups, the business world, and other academic institutions.
The DIA-CoE IITR will enable and conduct multidisciplinary integrated basic and applied research in certain areas. The DRDO and IITR will work together to determine the research verticals. In order to promote and facilitate cutting-edge defence technology research, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) will also collaborate with academic researchers and faculty members at IIT Roorkee, businesses, and other institutions in the country. There will be representatives from IITR personnel and students, DRDO researchers, start-ups, the corporate world, and other academic institutions.
