December 10, 2020: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has been proclaimed as ‘The Most Innovative Institute of the Year 2020’ for its innovation quotient in the CII Industrial Innovation Awards 2020.
Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary at DST, Government of India, and Kris Gopalakrishnan, Past President of CII have presented the award to IIT Roorkee during the 26th DST-CII Technology Summit.
Moreover, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has also launched a compendium featuring IIT Roorkee’s three innovations along with the ‘Top 25 Innovative companies of 2020’.

IIT Roorkee’s three innovations that have been featured in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) compendium are:

Professor Ashutosh Sharma, at the event, congratulated all winners and other participants for their innovation. He encouraged everyone to revolutionize Indian industries for the upcoming future by continuing to nurture their innovation framework.
He further enlightened that India has the third-largest start-up ecosystem across the world and is a powerhouse of innovation. Innovation is the new mantra for various technical areas such as communication, manufacturing, etc.
Professor Ashutosh Sharma stated, “Government and industries of India should realize that disruption through a convergence of technology and enterprise can be a game-changer for the economy and society.”
Kris Gopalakrishnan, who is also Chairman at CII National Startup Council stated that to provide impetus to industrial innovations, India must have a healthy mechanism for innovation work, collaborate to research globally, acquire services and products, and for revenue generation.
He further congratulated all winners as well as participants, especially the two institutes- IIT Roorkee and IIT Madras. He urged more companies and institutes to showcase their innovation on this forum.
Director at IIT Roorkee, Professor Ajit K. Chaturvedi, stated that the institute encourages collaborative partnership between students of different levels, faculty members, and their incubator TIDES. He said that this collaborative partnership facilitates the ‘ideation to creation’ process. Consequently, the result-oriented innovation eco-system at IIT Roorkee has made the institute win this award.
The award is a testament to IIT Roorkee’s fostered innovation environment. He further added, “Innovation, creation of intellectual property, and incubation are major pillars for strengthening our research output.”
