The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has officially introduced a new department of design (DOD) which has launched two new PGPs – Masters in Design (industrial design) and Masters in Innovation Management (MIM), which will commence in the academic year 2021-22.

The initiative would place great emphasis on activities that contribute to the economic growth of the country and create commercial opportunities. With DOD being established at IIT Roorkee, it would encourage and facilitate entrepreneurial drives and interdisciplinary design-focused education research.
Further, the DOD would create documentation and archival repository of design innovation practices which will then act as a resource centre housing comprehensive information and knowledge in broad domains of industrial design and innovation management.
The department would actively strive to act as a bridge between academia and industry to address the societal issues via the co-creation efforts and transformation thereof into products of value.
The Director and Professor of IIT Roorkee, Kumar Chaturvedi, said that in today's age, innovation leads to design-driven solutions to the problems faced by the industries and societies worldwide. As per the early trends, both the programmes have been warmly welcomed by the students across India.
