IIT Patna Placement 2020: Institute Sets Record as Highest CTC Reaches INR 47 LPA So Far

Indian Institute of Technology, Patna (IIT P) set a record for placements this year when one of the BTech students from the institute grabbed a job offer of INR 47 Lakh annual package. 

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, experts predicted a huge impact on the job sectors. Despite this, IIT Patna managed to fetch some of the lucrative job offers for the students, attracting globally renowned firms at the placement drive.

Officials said that more than 111 companies showed up for the on-campus recruitment to offer a large number of 200 job opportunities. Companies that showed interest in recruiting the students were MNCs including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Rakuten, and Goldman Sachs.

IIT-Patna Placements 2020: Highlights 

This year, the overall placement percentage stood at 83.51, which is up by 12% this year. While, the previous year, only 95 companies visited for on-campus recruitment.

One of the BTech students who received the annual package of INR 47 Lakh was from DE Shaw Indian Software Private Limited, which is the highest domestic offer in the ongoing placement drive. While another BTech student grabbed a job offer of INR 43.50 lakh annual package from Microsoft and the other 5 students bagged jobs worth more than INR 30 LPA.

IIT Patna’s Training and Placement Officer Kripa Shankar Singh said that they are glad to receive the job opportunities coming from both Indian and multinational companies amid the exceptional situation of Covid-19 pandemic. 

During the first phase of the placement drive, 40% of the registered BTech students grabbed the job offers, while more than 75% of students from computer science have been placed until now and 6 students from the present batch have grabbed the internship offer. While 1 student has received a job offer from Google, India and 2 students have received international internships from Japan, he added.

It's heartening to see that all the international offers have broken the records this year. Last year, the maximum pay offer coming was just INR 3.8 million per annum while this year it has been increased to INR 5.9 million per annum. A Japanese MNC Rakutin gave an annual package of INR 5.9 million to 3 students from MTech Computer Science, he said. 

The students are supposed to join their respective organizations in May-June by the next year 2021. It has not yet been decided whether the students who grabbed international offers will travel to foreign or continue their jobs remotely. However, it will be finalized based on the Covid-19 status in the future.

Professor in-charge of Training and Placement Cell, Jose V Parambil said that owing to the pandemic, the institute geared up for virtual campus placements on pre-scheduled time. 

Students who qualified for the written exams were allowed to sit for online interviews. The institute's Training and Placement Cell had conducted online training programs to mentor and guide their students for the online campus placements. 

A total of 117 BTech students and around 42 students from MTech are getting placed this year. The maximum number of students who got placed were from the Computer Science department. As per reports, BTech percentage has increased to 94.35% whereas the MTech placements has touched 62.50%.
