National Supercomputing Mission of the Government of India to fill up the gaps between the application and development aspects in AI and Computing. Professor Somnath Roy, principal investigator of the project at IIT Kharagpur, states that students are aware about the computational techniques in science and engineering but fail to apply in the practical world.
It is very important to impart HPC training to the researchers to ensure the effective utilisation of the techniques.Previously, the Institute had organised an online program on the basics of HPC with other nodal centers of CDAC and recorded 800 students from different fields.

The training will be offered in various phases and the first phase will cover the basic points on parallel computing; MPI, OpenMP and CUDA programming; scientific computing; HPC-AI convergence and application areas like multi-scale modelling, computational biology, computational fluid dynamics etc.
As of now, IIT Kharagpur hosts a 1.3 Petaflop supercomputer named Paramshakti under NSM and has contributed in establishing Center for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS) funded by Dept. of Science and Technology. This center will be the hub of learning for next generation researchers and teaching activities involving HPC platforms.
