As per the latest announcement made by Director Prof Virendra Kumat Tewari on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, IIT Kharagpur has taken the initiative to offer a full journey scholarship to the Top 100 JEE Advanced rankers from the academic session 2021-2022.
IIT Kharagpur will offer the ‘Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Full Scholarship for Top 100 JEE (Advanced) Rankers’ Scholarship. Under this program, students who secure positions among the top 100 ranks in JEE Advanced 2021 will be offered with full fee exemption for their IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Admission.
This IIT KGP Scholarship will be functional from the academic session 2021-2022 for all eligible students. Students whose parents’ annual income is less than INR 20 Lakh will be eligible to apply for scholarship benefits. The announcement for the IIT Kharagpur Scholarship 2021 program for JEE students was made by Institute Director Prof Virendra Kumat Tewari during the institute’s 71st basis day program held on the campus ground.
Referring to the initiative of IIT Kharagpur, Institute Director Prof Virendra Kumat Tewari said, “At IIT Kharagpur we imagine that not a single meritorious pupil ought to have their schooling restricted as a consequence of monetary constraints”. Adding to this statement, he said, “It is our accountability in addition to our privilege and immense pleasure to assist all such gifted and meritorious, however economically challenged college students to enter increased schooling".
“This scholarship is in the name of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay) and he earned the title of ‘Vidyasagar’ for his vast knowledge in Sanskrit and Indian philosophy which was compared to the vastness of the ocean”, he further added.
Referring to the same, Prof Jayanta Mukhopadhyay stated that students do not only need funds for paying up the tuition fee, but they also need to buy books, food, lodging, and other day-to-day expenses. Therefore to help students the IITK institute will cover the entire cost of student's education including institution fees, hall expenses, textbooks, meals, gadgets, etc.
"It will leave them free to focus on their studies and social life without worrying about money," Prof Jayanta Mukhopadhyay, Dean Outreach and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur further added.
