IIT Kharagpur Launched Calendar on ‘Indian Knowledge System’ to Revive Interest in Ideology; Check Details Here


The Nehru Museum Science and Technology of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur has launched a calendar on ‘Indian Knowledge System’ consisting of facts about Indic studies.

IIT Kharagpur took this initiative to explore the Indian Scientific Heritage Studies in technical institutes. The launched calendar covers interesting information about the Indic studies and its connection to the current National Education Policy (NEP) in India.

At the beginning of the calendar, there is a separate note on Saptarishi, the seven sages of India. The calendar further mentions the scientific heritage within the ambit of the pursuit of advanced science and technology. 

International stalwarts pioneering in Indic Studies including ‘Arthashastra’, Sanskrit for Natural Language Processing, Vedic and Ancient Indian Mathematics were also discussed in the calendar. 

Joy Sen, the co-professor in-charge of the Academy of Classical and Folk Arts and the Chairman of the Nehru Museum Science and Technology stated that IIT Kharagpur is receiving a good response about the calendar from people all over the world. 

He thanked Dr Arnab Kumar Hazra for the immense contribution behind the calendar and mentioned that it had created an infection among the academicians in the world in a positive way. Various countries like Japan, South Africa and North European Country have also requested for the calendar.

Joy Sen further added, “The whole idea behind the calendar is to create, promote and to revive the interest of students and faculty members in the Indian heritage and Indology through creating an atmosphere of research.”

The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the launching of the Centre of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems at IIT Kharagpur on November 6 to 8, 2020.

Nishank Inaugurated the International Webinar titled ‘Bharata Tirtha’ which was organized by IIT Kharagpur and greeted the Institute for its continuous work in various branches of the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS).

The Director of IIT Kharagpur, Professor K Tewari stated the need to acknowledge and incentivize research work on Indian Scientific Heritage through prestigious awards.
