University of Leeds, England, and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur have agreed for Institutional Collaboration in Research and Education. This tie-up will enhance the cultural, social, and technological relations of both countries.
The collaboration between the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and the University of Leeds has been done with a target to promote interactions between students, staff, and faculty of both institutions.

The tie-up as per IIT-Kharagpur will be progressed through visits and exchange programmes, and joint supervision of master and doctoral students, on a reciprocal basis. Both the institutions will consider a hike in tuition fees to the visiting students.
Professor Samit Chakrabarty from the School of Biomedical Sciences will be the coordinator from the University of Leeds and Professor Nilanjan Das Chakladar of Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur.
The statement made by IIT Kharagpur states that apart from the short courses, workshops, seminars, or conferences, the basis of the agreement also includes linked masters and Ph.D. programmes, possibly in association with other reputed research, academic, or industrial organizations.

IIT Kharagpur was established in the year 1951 by the government of India. The institute is included in one of the top IITs and was ranked 4 as per NIRF 2019. Internationally, IIT Kharagpur is ranked 23 amongst BRICS nations, 53 in Asia, and 281 in the QS World University Rankings of 2020.
