In general, there are no more than 5% of students who go for cheating during exams. However, because of this small percentage of people, the rest of the 95% of students are suffering because of the strict examination process.

Setting strict measures to stop cheating is no exception to any institute. However, this makes the majority of the students feel constricted. While cheating cases are the exception and not the norm, to curb these practices, stringent rules need to be made.

Because of this, even those students who most likely have no intention of following malpractices are forced to give exams in a suffocative environment.

Measures to Avoid Unethical Behaviour in Online Exams

Students of IIT are admitted through a very strict admission process. As such, the spokesperson of IIT Kharagpur believes that the institute is safe from a case of mass cheating in the examination.

Though there have also been cases of cheating in the past, these are minimal at best. And even for these cases, strict and immediate action like cancellation of paper are imposed. Regardless, some of the more creative ways to stop cases of cheating are.

  • Use of Moddle, which is a double shuffle exam software
  • Setting the tests to have a time crunch. This means that students are allowed less time than they are set
  • Setting innovative questions where answer differs to each student
  • Having one on one interaction by viva voice
  • Combining oral and written tests
  • Conducting open-book examinations

While there is no foolproof way to stop malpractices from happening, adopting the best measures possible is the responsibility of an institute. This would provide a fair and equal ground to all the students.
