Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has officially launched four eMasters Degrees for working professionals. Course and application details are now available on IIT Kanpur’s website: emasters.iitk.ac.in.
The e-Masters programs by IIT Kanpur include specialisations in Communication Systems; Cybersecurity; Derivatives Market & Risk Management, Power Sector Regulation, and Economics & Management.
These eMasters Degrees will enable a virtual learning environment and assist in upskilling the working professionals with industry experience and expand their career options. Claiming to be for working professionals, the course completion deadline can be extended to 1 or 3 years.

The course will contribute 60 credits to the learner. The curriculum is divided into 12 modules with industry- focused concepts offering flexible completion timelines (one to three years), IIT Kanpur alumni status, access to IIT Kanpur’s placement cell, alumni network, and incubation cell.
The credits earned during the program will be transferred to an advanced degree (regular M.Tech. or Ph.D.) at IIT Kanpur by a candidate selected to pursue the advanced degree and subject to Senate approval. It can be noted that even the corporates can sponsor the programs for their employees.
IIT Kanpur’s eMasters Programmes in specialized industry-focused topics
Earlier, in July 2020, the Indian government announced the National Education Policy 2020, which permits the top academic institutes to offer online degrees for the first time ever.
IIT Kanpur ranks among the top five NIRF institutes of India, and welcomed this move by deciding to offer eMasters degree programs in specialized industry-focused topics.
Each unique, postgraduate level program is offered in a hybrid delivery format-- students will learn online in an experiential format, which will be delivered by the IIT Kanpur faculty through the digital delivery platform, ipearl.ai. The participants will also have the opportunity to visit the IIT Kanpur to meet faculty and experience campus life.
During the announcement, Prof Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur, said that the institute is a pioneer in offering high-quality education, providing leadership in technological innovations, and conducting impactful research.
Further, he said that the executive education certification programs are highly popular among the working professionals, who want to upgrade their skills and gain domain expertise. With the introduction of the eMasters programme, the institute has taken another step forward by providing degree credential programs that will give working professionals access to the complete ecosystem of resources and knowledge.
He added that the Institute will decide to start the four eMasters programs this year, and will add more. The institute believes that a formal degree in leading industry-focused areas will be highly aspirational for working professionals that will assist in enhancing the domain expertise and get them to play a significant role in India’s digital transformation journey.
