IIT Kanpur NPTEL Computational Science: Course Overview
The main goal of the course is to showcase scientific computing fundamentals. The course also involves the framework for applied mathematics like Linear Algebra, ODEs, and PDEs.
Computational science is a rapidly evolving field that helps to provide the computational ability to various major challenges in natural and social science along with the engineering fields.
For an in-depth understanding of engineering and applied sciences, the course will offer advanced learning on mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, computer architecture, efficient algorithms, software design and implementation, visualization and validation of results.
An expert in the field of aerospace engineering, Dr Ashoke De will be teaching the course. Dr De is also an Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur.
Dr De has authored over 130 articles in various journals and conferences. Computations mechanics is the primary subject of Dr De’s research, although he also takes interest in subjects like turbulent flows and combustion.

IIT Kanpur Computational Science Course Certification
After successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded certificates. In order to appear for the proctored examination, candidates need to pay a fee of INR 1,000. The certificate will have the official stamp of NPTEL and IIT Kanpur.
To obtain a certificate, candidates have to secure 25% of marks from assignment and 75% from the examination. If candidates fail to meet any of the criteria, the certificate will not be issued to them, even though they secure more in any one of the aspects.
Students need to secure a minimum 10 off 25 from assignments and 30 off 75 from the proctored examination. Candidates will not be awarded the certificate if they don’t meet any of the criteria even if their final total reaches 40 off 100 or more.
