The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has collaborated with Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for study on real-time apportionment of pollutants.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has collaborated with Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for study on real-time apportionment of pollutants. 

The Delhi Environment Minister, Gopal Rai said that the DPCC and IIT Kanpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a study on real-time apportionment of pollutants for an effective management of pollution in the city. 

Rai said that the study will be for a duration of 23 months and it will be the first-of-its-kind effort to understand the source of pollution on a real-time basis. 

The minister said in a press conference that the institute had displayed a presentation before the CM, Arvind Kejriwal in the month of February 2021. The entire modalities have been finished and an MoU has been signed with IIT Kanpur for a real-time apportionment of pollutants study. 

Further, the institute will submit a report after the study for which the government will find the solution accordingly. Despite the fact that there are many studies available, the real-time source of pollution in Delhi is still unknown and with the help of the study, it will be easier to find the solution. Even the Delhi Cabinet approved the move, the minister said.

According to the environment department authorities, the INR 12 Crore project will assist in identifying the factors that are responsible for a rise in air pollution at any place in the capital such as vehicles, stubble burning, dust, biomass burning, and emissions from industries. 

Further, the authorities said that a mobile lab which will be well-equipped with instruments will scour various spots in Delhi. Additionally, a supersite where data will be placed to collect and interpret for important actions. 

On the basis of the results, the government will take the necessary and immediate actions to curb the pollution sources, the Delhi Environment Minister said.
