IIT Jodhpur has Launched a Center of Excellence in Cyber Physical Systems Security

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur has established a Cyber Physical Systems Security Center of Excellence (CoE) at the IIT Jodhpur Technology Park in cooperation with WhizHack Technologies Private Limited on June 9, 2022.

IIT Jodhpur in collaboration with WhizHack Technologies Private Limited has launched a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Cyber Physical Systems Security at the IIT Jodhpur Technology Park.

The Center of Excellence will setup a research infrastructure to develop ground-breaking approaches for detecting, predicting, and mitigating cyber-physical system threats.

WhizHack will produce security products for the worldwide market and build use cases with major industry verticals for successful projects. Later, projects in the infrastructure, defence, and government sectors will also be undertaken by this collaboration.

Cyber-attacks on firms in key infrastructure sectors increased by 3900 percent between 2013 and 2020, according to a Gartner report from 2022.

According to an official release from IIT Jodhpur,"Gartner Security and Risk Leaders have listed the Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems as top concerns for the next three to five years."

The objectives of the collaboration are as follows:

  • In order to identify, categorise, and neutralise advanced cyber-attacks, including zero-day attacks on vital infrastructure in India, software IPs will be developed.
  • To develop large-scale cyber-physical system training programmes
  • To promote Made in India software products and training around the world.

Professor Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, commented on the CoE, saying, Debilitating attacks on cyber-physical systems, such as waterways, energy, railways, smart cities, defence, and telecom networks, are India's biggest cyber security concern, both now and in the future. We're looking at new paradigms in cyber-physical system security, and we'd like to use WhizHack to help us productize our findings by tackling the most difficult problems using locally-built solutions.

According to Kaushik Ray, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO), WhizHack Technologies, WhizHack, as India's only vertically integrated cyber security organization, has built and deployed its 'Made in India' cyber threat detection system across prominent infra-structure such as Defence, Telecom, Power, and Enterprises.

It is building next-generation se-curity products to serve Indian and global markets that adopt a holistic approach in which Operational Technology, Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial IoT, and IT security are managed in a coordinated effort, and not in silos.
