IIT Hyderabad Collaborates with Deakin University For A Joint Doctoral Program


IIT-Hyderabad and Deakin University have signed an MoU on 31st March to introduce a joint Doctoral Program (JDP). This new doctoral program will be inviting 10 eligible PhD applicants from July 2021.

JDP will be offered in a wide range of subjects and specialization in materials and smart manufacturing, food, environment and agriculture, affordable healthcare, machine learning and data science, cyber-physical systems, AI and infrastructure and energy.

Once the candidate is selected, they will get the opportunity to spend 3-12 months at Deakin depending on their research and jointly supervised by both IIT-H and Deakin.

IIT Hyderabad will provide regular PhD fellowship to the students when staying at the campus. While travelling to Deakin, they will be receiving a stipend fortnightly to increase the total equivalent stipend to USD 28,600 per annum.

Along with this, the students will be entitled to a full tuition fee waiver for up to 4 years with a stipend of USD 150 per month while they stay at IIT Hyderabad.

Eligibility for Applying to JDP

Candidates must have completed their BTech/MTech degree from a recognized university to apply for the JDP provided that they meet all the required criteria for admission to JDP.

The selection process for this program will be based on the Joint Interview process conducted by both universities.

Director of IIT-Hyderabad, Prof. BS Murty expressed his gratitude by saying, “Deakin has given four decades of academic and research excellence through this collaboration. With this, both the universities will be stepping into new avenues in the field of teaching and research through synergy to scale newer heights of excellence”.

Students applying for the JDP program will be assigned a supervisory team at Deakin and the Doctoral committee at IIT-H. On completion of the program, the students will be receiving two separate certificates from both universities.
