IIT Guwahati Professor Distributes Solar Light-Embedded Backpacks to Village Students; Read Details


IIT Guwahati professor Charu Monga has designed an environment-friendly product called "Jugnu". These are backpacks embedded with solar light.

The professor from IIT Guwahati made these backpacks in order to assist the students studying in villages where there are no proper lighting facilities. She created 200 bags that are made of recycled plastic that gives them the capability of being water-proof.

The Union Education Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank made it public through his official Twitter account. The innovator, Charu is a broad-minded professor who plans seminars and workshops very often to inculcate and draw practical approach and initiative among students.

She has been conducting such activities for 2500 students so far. She provided these 200 backpacks to many students of 20 schools in seven towns. 

Monga spoke about her initiative and said that she noticed that students often face the problem of irregular power supply and early sunset in studying as well as in their free time while playing. She got to know this after interacting with a village student.

The IIT Guwahati designed solar light switches on automatically. Moreover, the backpack consists of a lab kit that assists the students with better and brighter inventions. 

Apart from these bags, Charu also launched innovation hubs with the objective of ensuring the access of digital devices such as Virtual Reality headsets and well-curated course content to everyone. This will lead to more inventions in the future that will ease the lives.
