IIT Guwahati started its placement drive on December 1 through virtual mode. So far, 69 offers have already been made by various companies to the students of the institute.
A total of 133 students from IIT Guwahati also managed to bag pre-placement offers (PPO). This is the same as that of last year. However, in terms of package offers, the highest package for this year till now is already higher than that of last year.

Many multinational companies such as Microsoft, Qualcomm, Google, Goldman Sachs, Adobe, Oracle, Texas Instruments, Quadaye, Walmart, American Express, Bajaj, Uber, MTX, Accenture Japan, among others participated on the first day of the session at IIT Guwahati.
Prof. Abishek Kumar, Head of Center for Career Development, said that IIT Guwahati is conducting the placement drive in a completely online manner. When asked what the institute thought about the offers, he said that the institute was glad that the highest package so far already surpassed the highest package of last year.
Another Prof. TG Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati said in a press release that this year has seen the placement drive being shifted to online mode. According to him, the number of recruiters who had joined the drive in spite of the pandemic was encouraging.

He further said that the institute was thankful to the recruiters who had come for placements even when the situation was so difficult. He praised the students of IIT Guwahati and said that those who are appearing for the drive are very determined and will benefit from shifting of the drive to online mode.
He also stated that the online placement drive is an opportunity that should not be missed by the students. IIT Guwahati and other institutes also expect an upward trend in placement figures despite the spread of the virus.
The situation previously looked grim because most of the companies were suffering losses and making cutbacks on recruitment. But now the worst looks to be over and most of the employers were back to the campus for hiring.
