IIT Guwahati has announced that the students will be admitted to these BTech programmes through the scores obtained in the JEE Advanced 2021. Further, the institute has decided to intake a total of 20 students for its first batch.
The newly established Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Guwahati will offer this BTech programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
According to an IIT Guwahati statement, the B.Tech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme has been designed to be holistic in nature that will assist students in various topics related to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI), with an emphasis on relevant courses from other science and engineering streams including Computer Science, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics.

TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, said that the new BTech programme on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence introduced by IIT Guwahati will be very effective to guide the next generation Data Scientists and Technologists for future predictions in multiple domains including business, disaster management, technology implementation, healthcare sector, policy formulation and maintain large data sets irrespective of the domain they work in their professional careers.
Further, there are a considerable number of opportunities available in this field that will fulfill the demands of having qualified graduates to serve the nation in the future in areas that require expertise guidance in AI and Data Analytics, he said.
The new BTech programme will mainly focus on extending training theoretical and practical perspectives. With the help of training, students will be prepared to tackle cutting-edge challenges in the field of Big Data analytics and Management, Natural Language Processing, Finance, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, AI, Computer Vision, and internet of things (IoT).
As per the IIT Guwahati statement, the BTech programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is likely to prepare the students for significant challenges associated with business and innovation moving towards a data-driven setup, contributing towards the growth of a new innovation-oriented India.
