IIT Guwahati, IIT BHU Signs Agreement to Offer Joint Doctoral Programmes; Check Details Here


IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU have announced that they will offer joint doctoral programmes. The programmes will be offered from the next session in July 2021. In order to solidify their cooperation, the two institutes inked their agreements for the same.

Both the institutes are among the best in India. In a statement issued by IIT Guwahati, they said that instead of striving to be an individual center of excellence, both the institutes will come together to build a network of brilliance. Their proposal has been accepted by the IIT council.

Through their agreementsIIT BHU and IIT Guwahati are expecting a great boost in their academic foundation and research quality. This would also pave the way for future academic collaborations in the future. 

In their statement IIT Guwahati also said that as per the National Education Policy 2020, such collaborations should be the norm among major institutes. Further, it stated that reforms such as these will increase and promote multidisciplinary academic progress in both the institutes.

The reforms would also encourage and create a knowledge-based economy in the country. Other than this, the institutes also have plans to start other joint collaborations between the two institutes.

One of the discussed initiatives that is most likely to be finalized is to provide joint M.Tech programmes. IIT Guwahati has also expressed its interest in such an initiative and talks for other collaborations would continue to be held.

IIT BHU had previously announced that they will start the online orientation of new students online. Classes in the institute for the newly admitted students would be started after their orientation. The admission process and the start of the new session have already been hit with many delays due to the pandemic this year. 

On the other hand, IIT Guwahati has been busy conducting a slew of researchers. Recently the institutes announced that they have declared a tech to make data transmissions even more secure. The technology would be used in space communication and involve the use of light beams to transfer data.
