The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is all set to offer a new postgraduate course, M.Tech in Machine Intelligence and Data Science from July 2022.
The School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will commence the new PG course that will mainly focus on Artificial Intelligence.
The new postgraduate programme has been titled ‘M.Tech in Machine Intelligence & Data Science (MINDS)’, which has also been approved by the IIT Delhi’s Senate, the faculty body responsible for taking all the significant educational decisions.
IIT Delhi has decided to make the new PG programme, M.Tech in MINDS, an industry-sponsored programme. It will also be a flagship educational programme for the school and is expected to commence in July 2022.
Earlier, the ScAI offered a PhD program in Artificial Intelligence and now the M.Tech in MINDS will be it's second degree.
IIT Delhi to Offer Endowment Scholarships Seed Funding Programs
Prof. Mausam, the founding head of the school, said that a lot of students took admission to the PhD programme in AI in its first year. As a result, there was a 90% success rate in PhD students joining ScAI last semester.
He said that ScAI, a young academic unit, is excited to witness such records as students usually prefer more established academic programmes. But students opting to pursue their degrees at ScAI proves that the faculty team in AI are really strong.
Currently, the School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) lists a total of 40 faculty members on its list, including adjunct faculty members from industry research centers like Google AI, IBM Research, and Microsoft Research.
Since the institute has decided to offer M.Tech in MINDS as an industry-sponsored programme, the students will have to work on industry-relevant Artificial Intelligence problems.
IIT Delhi Introduces BTech in Energy Engineering
The participants of the M.Tech programmes will be co-advised by a researcher from the sponsoring company and an IIT Delhi professor. Interested candidates can apply for the M.Tech in MINDS programme by visiting the official IIT Delhi website. Such candidates should have passed an undergraduate degree in science or engineering to be eligible for the MINDS programme.
Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said that the academic institutions must actively work with all the stakeholders including non-profit, industry, and governmental organizations as they cannot remain in silos. Further, the IIT Delhi's M.Tech in MINDS programme will energize academia-industry collaboration in Artificial Intelligence.
The M.Tech in MINDS curriculum comprises graduate-level courses in core AI technologies such as deep learning and data mining. The fundamental courses on mathematics underlying modern AI technologies. The Application-oriented courses like natural language processing, computer vision, and AI for healthcare.
With an objective to strengthen and promote education, research, and AI applications, the School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) was established last year.
It promotes multidisciplinary partnerships between AI and domain experts so that the fundamental research impacting real applications could be pursued. Since its inception in synergising the activities involving artificial intelligence across the institute and in new faculty recruitments, the ScAI has been making rapid strides.
Furthermore, the School of Artificial Intelligence has decided to commence an Executive Masters programme in order to cater to the increasing demands in the space of AI.
The Executive Masters Programme will be taught during the evenings and the classes will also be held during the weekends. In case of any query, the candidates can write to office [AT]scai.iitd.ac.in for further clarification.
