The Board of Governors, IIT-Delhi, has officially approved the commencement of ‘Bachelor of Design (B.Des)’ from the 2022-23 academic session. As per latest updates, admission will be conducted for 20 seats
The Department of Design IIT Delhi, which came into existence in 2017, will now offer the B.Des course. It has been notified that the four-year B.Des programme will have 20 seats and students from various backgrounds, including science, arts, commerce etc will be eligible for the programme.
The institute has even taken to twitter to officially announce the new additions, which is as follows.

The four-year B.Des. programme will be offered by the Institute’s Dept. of Design and will have 20 seats to start with.

IIT Delhi has decided to provide admissions to students for B.Des (Bachelor of Design) course, based on the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination For Design (UCEED) ranks.
Registration for the UCEED 2022 has begun from September 9, 2021 and is scheduled to end on October 10, 2021. The exam is slated for January 23, 2022. Hence interested candidates who have passed Class 12 (or equivalent examination) from a recognized board can fill the application form now.
Meanwhile as per the press release, the director of IIT Delhi, Prof V Ramgopal Rao, said that they are delighted to start the new Bachelor’s programme in design as this is the first time, IIT Delhi would be admitting undergraduate students (B.Des) from subjects other than Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Further, he said that the institute is expecting students who graduate with a B.Design degree from IIT Delhi would take up leadership positions in industry, academia, government, consulting, and entrepreneurship in due course of time.
Prof Rao added that the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programme and other programmes in design, which are in accordance at IIT Delhi, will bridge the huge demand-supply gap of quality design professionals, which the country needs to excel as a creative economy.
