In order to promote research and excellence and recognise the contributions towards the institute, the professors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi Faculty have endowed scholarships and awards to undergraduate students and employees respectively.
According to a statement issued by IIT Delhi, many retired faculty colleagues had come to endow scholarships and awards for the undergraduate students of IIT Delhi within the last two months. It is stated that the scholarship endowed by the donors will assist defray tuition expenses of undergraduate students at IIT Delhi, while the awards will motivate the students to excel in the academics, research, and co-curricular activities.

IIT Delhi: Awards & Scholarships
Professor Kushal Sen, Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering and his wife Mira Kushal, an alumnus of IIT Delhi set up five awards. These were targeted at promoting and recognising research, excellence, and leadership among UG students of IIT Delhi and one award for identifying contributions of the employees, who are making the institute function better.
In the memory of his wife and mother, Professor S N Singh, department of applied mechanics, has endowed two merit-cum-means scholarships for the undergraduate students. Earlier, he and his wife had established eight awards and scholarships.
In the memory of his father, Professor Anurag Sharma, Department of Physics, and his wife, Enakshi K Sharma, who is an IIT Delhi alumnus and former faculty member, have instituted an award for the best PhD thesis in the field of optics and photonics. Besides, Professor D Subbarao, department of chemical engineering has also set up an award for the best PhD thesis in chemical engineering.
IIT Delhi: Fund-raising for Endowments
Here are some of the funds-raised by the IIT Delhi professors for endowments.
- V S Bisaria from the department of biochemical engineering and biotechnology, has raised funds for the “Professor T K Ghose endowment”. One of the main leads of the “Professor K L Chopra Endowment" was Professor D K Pandya from the department of physics.
- Professor S N Maheshwari, department of computer science and engineering played a very important role in establishing the Chaturvedi Distinguished Fellowship by the Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi foundation. On the other hand, Mahesh Chaturvedi, who retired from IIT Delhi in 1986, had set up a chair in policy studies at IIT Delhi in 2007.
Meanwhile, acknowledging all the professors for their kind gestures and support, the Director of IIT Delhi, V Ramgopal Rao, said that the greatest strength of the institute is the selflessness and devotion of the institute faculty members. Many colleagues prefered to remain anonymous, but the institute officials wanted to celebrate their contribution as it will build a strong culture of sharing and giving amongst the IIT Delhi alumni.
