IIT Delhi Alumni Endows with USD 1 Million to Computer Science and Engineering Department: Details Here


Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi alumnus Mohit Aron has endowed with USD 1 Million to the Institute’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi alumnus Mohit Aron has endowed with USD 1 Million to the Institute’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering. 

According to the IIT Delhi, Mohit Aron’s endowment will be used to assist the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and set up itself as a world-leading Computer Science department. 

The IIT Delhi’s CSE Department said that the funds will be used to support the faculty’s research activities and to ensure that the undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students of the CSE department attend the conferences, workshops, and competitive events across India and abroad.

Mohit Aron pursued B.Tech in Delhi, from the 1995 batch of computer science and engineering department. In 2018, he received the “Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award”, from Rice University where he completed his PhD in 2000 and in 2019, he also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from IIT Delhi.

When asked about the contribution, Aron said that the education from IIT Delhi’s computer science department has been a foundational pillar of my career. He also expressed his appreciation for the department and said that it's his way of giving something back to the department. 

Prem Kalra, Head, Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi said that the CSE department has added many new members to the faculty in the last 2 years. Mohit's generous gift will propel the institute further towards the goal of being amongst the top 50 CS departments worldwide by 2025 and within the top 30 by 2030.

Thanking Mohit Aron for his contribution, V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said that the Alumni contributions, such as those of Mohit’s, are an important resource that will enhance the institute’s competitiveness in attracting both students and faculty.

He added that with the recent launch of the School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI), IIT Delhi has become an exciting and vibrant destination for student's research and training in CS, AI, Data Science and allied areas.
