Indian Institute of Technology Bombay(IIT B) has accepted the Supreme Court’s directives to grant interim admission to Siddhant Batra, the 18-year-old who had accidentally lost his seat.
Siddhant Batra from Agra scored a 270 rank in JEE Advanced but had accidentally withdrawn from the counseling process by pressing a wrong key on the website of Joint Seat Allotment Authority (JoSAA).
Batra approached the court when JoSAA and IIT Bombay did not hear his plea. His case in the Supreme Court was not an Adversarial Litigation as per his counsel.
The Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Hrishikesh Roy decided to rule in favor of Siddhant Batra on January 6, 2021.
The Supreme Court bench also granted IIT Counsel Sonal Jain’s plea that this ruling will be a one-off case and not be considered as a precedent. IIT had contested the case by stating that the process for withdrawal from counseling was a two-step procedure and hence admission should not be granted.
