The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is now accepting applications for the Summer Fellowship in Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education (FOSSEE) 2021. Students pursuing any degree, from any college, and at any stage of their graduation or post-graduation studies are eligible to apply for the fellowship programme.
Aspiring candidates should keep in mind that the application deadline for IIT Bombay FOSSEE 2021 is May 5, 2021. The results will be announced in the last week of May, and the Fellowship programme will begin on June 1st, tentatively.
Before beginning the fellowship programme, applicants must complete some screening tasks and learn a FLOSS. The task list and other information about the fellowship can be found at fossee.in/fellowship/2021.
“These tasks may include programming, scientific computing, holding awareness workshops, and gathering data that will be useful to the community. These screening tasks are not difficult and can be completed in two to four weeks, according to an official statement from IIT Bombay. Tasks may be submitted until May 15th.

- The FOSSEE team recommends that you choose only one of the topics listed in the table above.
- We strongly advise you to complete and submit at least one task from the chosen topic in order to improve your chances of selection.
- Each task should be completed by a single person. We do not accept group submissions
- Please ensure that your submission files contain no copyrighted content.
- The FOSSEE team will evaluate the submissions and announce the final list of selected candidates for fellowship based on the tasks submitted's completeness, correctness, and quality.
- The FOSSEE team reserves the right to select and reject FOSSEE fellows. This decision will be final and irreversible.

The FOSSEE project at IIT Bombay, which began in 2020, aims to promote the use of free and open software tools while reducing reliance on proprietary software in order to improve the country's educational quality.
