IIT Bombay Campus to be Opened to a Few UG Final Year Students, Check Details Here


IIT Bombay has planned to reopen the campus for a few undergraduate final year students after checking their laboratory requirements and willingness in the upcoming spring semester.

IIT Bombay has allowed the Ph.D. and final year M.Tech students to visit campus as of now. But the plan to reopen campus for UG final year students will be implemented only after receiving feedback from IIT Madras which was now shut down because of COVID-19.

The academic plan for the semester will be finalized by the IIT Bombay’s senate. Officials informed that considering the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, all the classes will be conducted in online mode.

Candidates who were facing restrictions to obtain resources while attending online classes will be allowed to visit the campus of IIT Bombay.

IIT Bombay’s professor stated that the final year would not have much laboratory work but the candidates who have opted for project work, they might need to access the resources available in the campus.

The Professor stated that few students have managed their projects requirement using simulation but other students who could not do so should rely on the laboratory work.

Though the numbers could be small, IIT Bombay would allow the students to visit the campus only if they were willing to come and only if their guides approve their requirements, Professor said.

The professor of IIT Bombay also stated that there are students residing in remote areas who have been facing issues in attending online classes.

“There are problems with internet connectivity, erratic power supply, or just space constraints. If such students want to return to campus, the institute may consider applications on a case-to-case basis,” the professor informed.

Subhasis Chaudhuri, the director of IIT Bombay has confirmed that the institute is planning to let a few students from UG final year to visit the campus, especially students who have project work in the final year.

Chaudhuri said that students could visit the campus only if they wish to, it is not mandatory. He also stated that the final decision upon this case will be taken only after receiving feedback from IIT Madras.

A final year student of IIT Bombay has stated that many students who have bagged offers and do not have project work would not consider returning to the Institute. Students who have opted for the honors program or students of final year dual degree might have laboratory work.

The laboratory work has been deferred to some of the final year students of IIT Bombay in the autumn semester, such students could be allowed to visit the Institute, a final year students stated.
