IIT BHU Plans to Join Hands with US National Science Foundation to Strengthen US-India Partnership


New Delhi: IIT BHU is planning to partner with the NSF, USA to strengthen the US-India comprehensive global strategic collaboration. Recently, the White House released a readout of President Biden's meeting with Prime Minister Modi, pointing to the newly announced US-India joint research initiative.

According to IIT BHU officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US President Joe Biden at a recent Quad summit and addressed progress on the Indo-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. 

Both leaders highlighted the United States' ambitions to join six Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) established under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) initiative to boost cooperative artificial intelligence and data science research projects.

NSF and TIHs have started an Indo-US joint research initiative. IIT-Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-BHU, IIT-Jodhpur, and ISI-Kolkata are among the 6 TIHs that make up the IDAPT Hub Foundation at IITBHU. The IDAPT Hub Foundation has promised to make a financial contribution of up to Rs 10 million to this collaborative research project.

Prof Pramod Kumar Jain, Director, IIT BHU, said, “IIT BHU is looking forward and committed to such global collaborations in science and technology. We are encouraging programs like faculty and student exchange programs, joint research chapters etc. between the two nations. This will give momentum to emerging technologies to solve modern age problems. This initiative will forge closer links between government, academia, and Industry in areas of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotech, space etc.”

“IIT BHU is committed to be a single point source of all knowledge and information related to Data Analytics and Predictive technologies. We are trying to connect all researchers, institutes, and other centres of excellence to work symbiotically towards development of DAPT to solve major societal problems”, said Prof Vikash Kumar Dubey, Dean, R&D. 

According to Dr RK Singh, the organiser of the IDAPT Hub Foundation, applications from researchers across India were accepted, and they are presently being collaboratively assessed for eligibility and merit. He said that initiatives like these will help encourage discussions on the benefits and drawbacks of bilateral CET research.
