The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) BHU and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Regional Academic Centre for Space for facilitating long and short-term projects at the institute.
The MOU between IIT BHU and ISRO was signed on December 23, 2020. The move is expected to develop a culture of research and development in the students at the institute.

The statement released by the varsity said that the agreement would facilitate the establishment of the Regional Academic Center for Space (RAC-S) in the institute. Further short term projects for MTech and BTech students at IIT BHU and its associated institutes will also be included in this agreement.
The statement added, “Long term R&D projects leading to the PhD programme will also be offered. Capacity building programmes like conferences, exhibitions, and short courses will be organized to strengthen the knowledge base in the field”
The MOU was signed by the director of Capacity Building Programme Office (CBPO), ISRO headquarters P V Venkatakrishnan and IIT(BHU) director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain.

Scientific Secretary of ISRO R Umamaheswaran gave the inaugural address and said that the RAC-S will promote space technology activities in the state of Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Umamaheswaran added that IIT BHU will act as the agent for awareness creation, capacity building, and R&D activities of ISRO. He concluded by saying that the work of RAC-S will help maximize the potential of research, expertise, and infrastructure at ISRO and IIT BHU.
