IISc Joins Hands with the Indian Navy for Collaborative Research


New Delhi: Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has joined hands with the Indian Navy for collaborative research, i.e, to Jointly work on aviation research and development, and to step up self-reliance efforts for the Indian Navy.

According to IISc Bangalore , a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has signed on July 29, in accordance with the objectives of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', which provides the Indian Navy, a formal framework for communication with pertinent IISc faculty members and will support joint research programmes in the areas of mutual interest. 

In the presence of prominent senior members of the Indian Navy including Rear Admiral Deepak Bansal, VSM, ACNS (Air Materiel), and Commodore Raja Vinod, Commodore Superintendent, NAY (Goa), and others, the MoU was signed by Captain Sridhar Warrier, Registrar, IISc and Captain P Vinayagam, Capt (APP), Indian Navy. 

Apart from these dignitaries, the Chairs of several departments in the Division of Mechanical Sciences, and the Office of Research Grants at IISc were also present at the occasion.

IISC: Collaborating in the Field of Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering 

In accordance with this MoU, IISC and the Indian Navy will work together on design and educational technology projects in the field of aerospace/ aeronautical engineering. 

Some of the specialisations under this agreement are Propulsion and Propulsion Systems, Steel Technology, Metallurgy and Material Sciences, and Corrosion Science, Systems and Controls, Instrumentation and Sensors, Environmental Science and Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, 

Management (Technical and Logistics), Industrial Engineering and Operational Research, Nanotechnology and MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems), Artificial Intelligence, Diffusion of Innovation, and Diffusion of Technology are among the specialisations that will be on the focus of this agreement.

Besides, the collaboration will also foster regular interactions between IISc faculty members and officers of the Indian Navy, the IISc statement said.

Speaking about the collaboration, Capt. Warrier said that it is a privilege for the institute to collaborate with the Indian Navy in the crucial areas of the institute's mutual interest. 

He concluded by saying that the institute anticipates several exciting research and development results that will evolve from this partnership.
