James Dyson Award 2021: IISc Bangalore student, Deval Karia has secured his rank among the James Dyson Award 2021 nation winner list as the Indian winner for this year’s edition with the invention of LifeBox, an active heart preservation container.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore student Deval Karia's invention, project LifeBox main aim was to use drones as a transport channel for organs. The project deals with issues related to the preservation time of the heart.

Talking about his project LifeBox, Deval Karia said, “The project has its genesis in a course taught by Prof. B. Gurumoorthy, Prof. A. Ghosal at CPDM, with a vision to explore drones for organ transportation".

"However, we soon realized that without active preservation techniques, drones will not do much to improve the rate of heart transplants in India. This led to a shift in focus: A portable system that can extend the out-of-body viable time of the heart" he further added.

In accordance with the James Dyson Awards 2021 national winners announcement, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore student, Deval along with 84 national finalists from 28 countries and regions will now appear for the next stage on the international ground.
