The Indian Institute of Science, (IISc) Bengaluru, Karnataka is declared as the best research institute by NIRF Ranking 2021. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister declared the NIRF ranking results of 2021 through a live webcast on September 9.
In 2021, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) introduced a new ranking category, Research. It is for those higher educational institutions which promote research. NIRF Ranking 2021 has been done based on several criteria, namely Quantitative Research, Qualitative Research, Students and Faculty Contribution, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception.
The ranking list was released with Top 50 Research Institutes. With a score of 86.48, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore becomes the top research institute in the Indian subcontinent.
IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kharagpur were the others in the Top 5 List. The complete list is available on the official website, nirfindia.org.

IISc is India's number one research Institute and also best in Asia too with international standard quality education. Of late, Times World University Rankings 2022 was announced that ranked IISc Bangalore among the top 350 positions. Thus, the university is credited with having the best research and learning facilities, educational and lab availability along with the best professors' and researchers' community of India.
Also as per the trends observed in NIRF Raking 2021 for Research Category, about 50 reserach institutes across the country secured positions. While, IISc Bangalore secured the topmost positions, others namely, IIT Madras, Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur secured the top five ranks. Most interstingly, the scoresof top 3 ranks showcased marginal differences, thus defining a tough competition in the range of 80.93 to 86.48.
