IISc Bangalore, IBM Launch Hybrid Cloud Lab in Bengaluru

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and IBM have officially announced the launch of a Hybrid Cloud Lab, on June 23, 2021.

The lab will start with an initial set of projects at the campus of IISc Bengaluru and this projects will involve the faculty and students from the Department of Computer science and Automation, Computational and Data Science, and supercomputing Education and Research centre, along with the scientists from IBM Researchers India lab, on several areas.

As per the IBM statement, the hybrid cloud lab wl include building autonomous, self-healing computing systems, creating AI-based information management; and developing AI systems that can analyse human and machine languages, adopting microservices, and optimization of cloud-native applications, with advances in the Artificial Intelligence for code.

Further, the research work will be made accessible to the open-source community for wider adoption and acceleration of innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) for hybrid cloud, the paper read.

Gargi Dasgupta, the Director of IBM Research India, said that the Hybrid Cloud platform is Open at the campus of IISc Bengaluru. However, the team will jointly develop open-source software that will provide interoperability, portability, and security that can be easily accessible to the vast community of developers to accelerate innovation.

Navakanta Bhat, Dean, Division of Interdisciplinary Sciences, IISc Bengaluru, said that they are specifically excited about making the joint research findings open-source and accessible to a wide community which will significantly accelerate innovation in the emerging areas of AI and Hybrid Cloud.

As per the statement by the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) study on hybrid cloud, the value derived from a hybrid, multi-cloud platform technology and operating model at scale is 2.5 times the value derived from a single platform, single cloud. Therefore, businesses are increasingly investing in hybrid multi-cloud platform capabilities to unlock value and drive business transformation.
