Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam has started Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) programme. It is a two-year long fellowship programme conceived to create a plethora of opportunities for individuals to contribute to enhancing skill development at the grassroots.
IIM Visakhapatnam will train a total of 75 fellows selected under Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) programme. The participants are reported to belong to 14 different states across the country. They will be deputed to approximately 75 districts in Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh after their training.

As a part of the first academic modules (AMs) in the MGNF programme, the fellows will have to undergo a rigorous classroom training for a period of two weeks. The fellows will be allocated in any of the above-mentioned districts for a four-month-long district immersion module (DIMs) after the training session is over.
The fellows will have to undergo a total of four AMs and six DIMs in total course duration. According to reports, this two-year MGNF Fellowship seeks to collaborate the classroom sessions with intensive field immersion at the district level to generate reliable plans.

The MGNF programme is likely to recognize the barriers in raising employment, promoting livelihoods, and economic output, in rural areas of the country.
IIM Visakhapatnam’s mentor institute, IIM Bangalore has selected the students for the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) programme. A total of INR 50,000 per month as a stipend would be paid to the MGNF fellows, followed by INR 60,000 per month in the second year of the program.
The IIM Visakhapatnam's MGNF programme was launched across nine IIMs by the Union education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. Encouraging the Fellows of the MGNF Program, he exhorted them to play a catalytic role in building up the skill ecosystem at the grassroots level.
Upon the successful completion of the MGNF programme, the fellows will be conferred a Certificate in Public Policy and Management by IIM-V, said Prof M Chandrasekharr, Director of IIM Vizag. Further, he pointed out how Fellows can play an indispensable role as enablers of skilling and how they can identify their career ambitions with the help of the institute.

As per report, the fellows will have to work under the supervision of State Skill Development missions. They should have to spend some quality time and effort to understand the skill challenges and gaps in the district.
Further, the fellows of MGNF programme are expected to enhance skilling programmes by improving their thinking into local planning, community interaction, execution, and outcome management.
