IIM Udaipur Launches India's First Student-Driven Investment Fund: Read Details Here


New Delhi: IIM Udaipur has launched India's first student-driven investment fund, called Impact Investment Fund (IIF). The investment fund will work towards making an environmental and social impact by investing in related ventures.

As per IIM Udaipur, the IIF will support those ventures who have a focus on United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The goals include zero hunger, good health, and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy.

Under the Impact Investment Fund, the Investees will have the opportunity to get access to IIM Udaipur's campus facilities which include functional clubs for consultation and use the talent pool for internships and live projects. 

In addition to campus advantages, the Investees will also have the access to the IIM Udaipur ecosystem of mentors, professors, and highly educated IIMU Faculty Members

While talking about the initiative, Janat Shah, Director of IIM Udaipur said, "It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction to see this student-driven initiative take seed in India through the commitment and passion of our young students to societal good".

"It will also give the students an opportunity to put their classroom learnings to a practical, socially relevant application, as they identify, mentor, and grow the ventures to also deliver reasonable returns to fund investors" he added. 

IIM Udaipur Impact Investment Fund: Key Highlights 

As per the officials, IIM Udaipur is estimating the IIF size for the coming five years to be about INR 7 crores. So far, the institute has received various investments of about INR 45 Lakh from the Transworld Group and Yogesh Andlay.

IIM Udaipur officials stated that the Impact Investment Fund will create a positive impact on our society and environment. India's first investment fund which is led by students aims to promote a culture of impact investing in India. 

As of now, the Impact Investment Fund's founding student team has a total of 18 members. The team is working closely with the Board of Directors, and Advisory Committees, all Fund operations, investments, etc. 

To increase its presence, the IIF is now looking forward to collaborating with Global Impact Fund Collaborative, which has 11 institutes. The institutes that are a part of the collaboration include Berkeley (Haas Impact Fund), Chicago Booth (Tarrson Impact Investment Fund) -Columbia (Microlumbia), Dartmouth (Tuck Social Venture Fund), Duke (Fuqua Sustainable Impact Fund), HBS (Harbus Foundation), IFIC (IESE Impact Investing Fund), LBS (Student Impact Investing Fund), Michigan (Michigan Climate Venture Fund, Michigan) and others. 

The launch of IIF was announced by IIM Udaipur through a webinar. The online event was attended by Mr. Nakul Zaveri, Managing Partner, Relativity Investment Management, Mr. Navneet Garg, CEO, and Co-Founder Caya Constructs, and Mr. Ramesh S. Ramakrishnan, Chairman, Transworld Group of Companies.
