IIM Calcutta Launches New Programme in Healthcare Management for Doctors & Related Professionals ; Read Full Story

IIM-Calcutta has started a new programme in healthcare management which is totally different from the residential and full-time courses. The last date to apply for the EPHM programme is August 10,2021.

Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta has started an all new Executive Programme in Healthcare Management for working professionals including doctors, healthcare professionals, pharmacists, entrepreneurs and medical engineering professionals. This programme has been designed by IIM Calcutta differently from the completely residential and full-time programmes in the field of healthcare management. 

IIM Calcutta EPHM Programme : Highlights

The course has a time duration of 1 year and the classes will be conducted in online mode (from 9 am to 12 pm), but only on Sundays. Moreover, the students will also get to have 2 campus visits , the first will be organised in the middle of the course while the second visit will be conducted towards the end.

Programme director of EPHM & associate professor of public policy and management group IIM Calcutta, Rajesh Bhattacharya, said,“This programme will help to improve the capabilities of professionals so that better outcomes can be obtained in their respective fields.Although on a small level, but we are trying to improve the overall health & wellbeing in the country. We are also trying to derive a better economic impact by helping the health professionals to also understand management of financial resources .”

Explaining about the career opportunities, the programme director stated, “It helps people to transition into management and leadership roles in the healthcare sector. The EPHM programme will help students with an added skill set and it will also help those doctors who are looking to move into a leadership role within a hospital. Even if a physician wants to expand or continue their own practice after the course, the skills they learn through EPHM will surely give additional value to their work.”

The main objectives of the programme is giving an outlook of healthcare sectors all across the world, the framework around them and implementation of the latest policies.It also includes practices like disaster management, which is extremely important for professionals due to the current environment. The EPHM programme will also focus on emerging healthcare technologies along with their operational aspects.

The programme also focuses on the side of strategic management in healthcare which includes a deep exposure to fields such as marketing, financial management, people management and operations. The course will be delivered by IIM Calcutta faculty members involved in this field. Apart from them,IIM Calcutta will also invite qualified experts to lead particular sessions giving participants a brief touch into current industry updates. The study material will be provided to the students only in electronic format. 

IIM Calcutta EPHM Programme: Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who are interested in this programme may note that the applicants must have minimum 50% of marks in their graduation/post graduation. Practitioners and administrators with MBBS/BDS/BAMS or equivalent degrees recognised by UGC/AICTE/MCI and also those with biotechnology/ biomedical background are eligible to apply for this executive course.

One important thing to note is that all the applicants must have a minimum of three years’ work experience in the sectors of healthcare. Beside them,applicants from other backgrounds must have a minimum of five years’ work experience in the healthcare sector to become eligible for the applications.
