New Delhi: IIM Calcutta has signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) with the Capacity Building Commission, Government of India. In a statement on Friday, February 18, 2022, IIM-C has stated that the knowledge partnership is aiming to improve Government’s human resource management practices.
The SOI was signed by Professor Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director at IIM Calcutta and Hemang Jani, Secretary, Capacity Building Commission, New Delhi on February 17, 2022.
Constituted in April 2021, the Capacity Building Commission (CBC), has the mandate to improve the Government’s human resource management practices and increase the capacity of 25 million Indian civil servants.
According to this initiative, the partnership focuses on designing a comprehensive strategy and executive training programmes and executing them for the civil servants at multiple levels. It will further provide the required support through enhanced learning competencies in their efforts of effective governance.
Lauding the initiative, Professor Sarkar has commented on how the collaboration is to impact IIM Calcutta’s ongoing attempts of doing public welfare.
“Our collaboration with the capacity building commission is another instance of our commitment to the public good as an eminent institution of management education in the country. IIM Calcutta will lend its expertise to the design and execution of training programmes for our country’s civil servants and support them through enhanced learning competencies in their efforts of effective governance”, Professor Sarkar added to his statement.
Congratulating the CBC for its significant efforts to ‘broad-base-on-the-job’ learning for the country's civil servants through knowledge partnership, Professor Bhaskar Chakrabarti, Dean (Academic) also commented on the collaboration.
“Through this partnership, we at IIM Calcutta wish to support CBC in its important national endeavour of creating well-trained human resources. We look forward to working closely with CBC over the next two years to build a knowledge repository for the benefit of all civil servants”, as stated by him.
As per the official reports, IIM Calcutta has already been working towards providing training to civil servants and educators on the modern innovative management development from the recent past.
It has been recognised for its thought leadership through research and teaching modalities in the field of management studies and has managed to secure a well-established reputation for providing world-class training for practising managers and administrators in the private and public sectors.
Last year, the Education Department of Bengal collaborated with IIM-C for a workshop with the Heads of Government schools. The collaboration would provide leadership training to heads of government and government-aided primary, secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutes in West Bengal.
Professionals with at least 2 years of working experience could apply for the executive program at iimcal.ac.in. The program commenced through online mode, on Sundays and select Fridays in small batches in the months of December 2021 and January 2022.
