New Delhi: Pankaj R. Patel has been chosen by the Indian Institute of Ahmedabad (IIMA) to serve as the board of governors' new chair. Since the institute was created in 1961, Pankaj R. Patel has served as the IIMA's fourteenth chair. He replaces Kumar Mangalam Birla, whose four-year term officially ended yesterday.
Pankaj Patel served on the IIMA Board of Governors for eight years before being named Chairperson.
Zydus Lifesciences Ltd., a multinational, discovery-driven firm with operations in 55 nations, is led by Pankaj Patel as chairman. Pankaj Patel has co-invented more than 64 patents and combines research and techno-commercial knowledge. He has published over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed publications.
Pankaj R. Patel expressed his thoughts on assuming this crucial position, saying, "My selection as a Chairperson comes at a crucial time for the Institute as it is on the verge of entering the next stage of its expansion. The Board envisions a robust growth for the IIMA and has outlined plans to guide the Institute in this direction. I am thrilled to be a part of this esteemed institute and look forward to working with the Board of Governors, faculty members, students, staff members, the alumni group, and all other relevant stakeholders. I will be pleased to lend my support and knowledge to the Board as they work to realise our shared vision for the Institute.
Patel has been appointed to the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India as a Part-Time Non-Official Director. He serves on the boards of IIM Udaipur, Invest India, and the India Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), all of which are under the Indian government's Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Pankaj Patel has received numerous honours for his services to the Indian healthcare sector, including the Acharya PC Ray Memorial Gold Medal Award, the Eminent Pharmacist Award, and the India Innovator Award from the CNBC-instituted India Business Leaders Awards. Patel received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Life Sciences category for his business vision.
