Speaking on the occasion, Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the IIFT Kakinada campus would play a significant role in the nation's economy as a trading hub. Given the tremendous export potential of the state, the IIFT campus will act as a centre of international commerce.

She added that entrepreneurs in Andhra Pradesh had realised the value of marine goods and their exportation to other countries. With a coastline that reaches 900 km, the state is leading the way in developing its foreign trade to meet international standards.

The state has a potential for pharmaceuticals, textiles, grains, rice bran oil, fruits, etc. She cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea to support states in establishing trade development desks in foreign embassies to increase opportunities for local products to be exported internationally.

According to Sitharaman, the “one district one product” policy was implemented by the government to encourage the production of various goods. Many regional goods are becoming well-known abroad, and governments must focus on promoting their exports.

She further claimed that because the campus in Kakinada is unique and offers students a chance to gain firsthand experience with various exports, Kakinada plays a significant role in international trade in Andhra Pradesh.
