B.Tech course was offered in distance education mode at IGNOU till the academic year 2011-12. This led to the case because the engineering degree cannot be offered in distance mode.
Hence to clarify this case, AICTE informed that it does not have any objection to the degree awarded to candidates enrolled till 2011-12. Earlier in 2018, the Supreme Court had approved the degrees awarded by IGNOU for students enrolled till 2009-10.

This was later extended and relief was provided to students who enrolled till 2011-12. The IGNOU had stopped offering BTech in distance mode after that.
In accordance with the judgment, AICTE has also approved the degrees awarded to students who were enrolled at IGNOU till 2011-12.
The official circular of AICTE reads, “AICTE has no objection for B.Tech. Degree/Diploma in Engineering awarded by IGNOU to the students who were enrolled up to the academic year 2011-12 with IGNOU as per Supreme Court Judgement and hence are treated as valid as a special case but cannot be taken as precedence and not for post-2012.”
