The Old Student Association of Delhi University’s Hindu College is establishing a “pandemic study grant” fund for college students who are going through a financial crisis because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Hindu College OSA will support students whose families’ annual income is less than INR 5 lakh. The association will give a one-time study grant of INR 20,000 to pay the annual college fee.
Over the past month, many Delhi University colleges are taking steps to support students who may be finding difficulties to pay tuition or exam fees or failing to join online classes as they don’t have the required devices.
In addition, students and alumni at St. Stephen's College established a 'Resilience Fund' to assist the tuition fees of the students going through economic strain due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The college administration is also welcoming applications for a “limited number of college bursaries”.
Also, Lady Shri Ram College formed support systems and altered its hostel policy after a student, going through severe financial constraints due to the pandemic, died by suicide in Telangana state.
Long-term Plans to be Held on This
The statement issued by the OSA for the Hindu College grant states students can submit their applications, along with family income certificates, to Mahesh Rawat at the Hindu College or mail him at maheshrawathinducollege@gmail.com.
Ravi Burman, Association president, also stated, “in the long-term, the alumni are planning an OSA - Principal P.C.Verma Study Grant Fund’ which will disburse annual college fees to select needy students every year.”
The association is also working on collecting donations for the fund. Burman requested the alumni to contribute to this fund by issuing a cheque in favor of ‘Old Students Association, Hindu College’ or by giving the donation online to the Hindu college alumni portal.
