The Health Minister of Delhi has announced that schools in Delhi are to remain shut for the foreseeable future, due to the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic covid-19.
Satyendra Jain, The Health Minister for Delhi, said that schools will not re-open till the government is convinced of the safety of students. The announcement came through a statement on November 26.
Further, he told the reporters that the government is hopeful that a vaccine would be released soon. As such, before proper measures to fight against the virus are not available, the safety of the student will remain in doubt.

Educational Institutes including schools in Universities in Delhi have remained shut since March 15. A full nationwide lockdown followed on March 25, 2020. The center had announced an unprecedented lockdown on the state to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Delhi remains one of the worst affected areas in India in terms of rising number of cases. Despite this, the Delhi government has had almost no response on the matter of re-opening educational institutes. While many restrictions have been lifted as part of an unlock phase, schools and colleges remain shut.
As part of Unlock 5 guidelines, the onus for re-opening of schools and educational institutes was on the state governments. Many states like Meghalaya and Haryana had announced the re-opening of schools following this. However, due to a sharp spike in the number of cases in students, they had to close schools again.

The school authorities were earlier allowed to call students of grade 9 to grade 12 for physical classes from September 21 on a voluntary basis. However, the Delhi government finally decided against this.
The situation in Delhi regarding Covid-19 remains grim as they recorded more than 5000 new cases on November 25. However, this was a 8.5% decline which was the steepest since October 28.
The total fatalities also declined and the national capital saw 99 deaths on November 26 which pushed the total death toll to 8720.
