Haryana government has declared that schools in the state will remain closed till December 10. Previously the state had announced that the Haryana schools had to remain shut till November 30. This date has now been extended for 10 more days.
The decision was taken after a thorough assessment of the state situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The Home Minister of Haryana, Anil Vij made this announcement on November 28.

Speaking with several reporters, Vij further said that the government has instructed all Haryana schools from lower to higher levels to remain closed for 10 more days. After that, the state will decide whether the situation is conducive for schools or not.
In case the assessment turned out to be positive, the government will provide the schools with necessary Covid-19 guidelines before the date of school re-opening.
The government had previously announced the opening of lockdown norms in phases. As a part of unlock phase 5, schools and other educational institutions could be reopened. However, the decision to do so was left to the decision of the state government.

Haryana was one of the first states in the country to reopen schools in the country. Schools and other educational institutes had previously remained shut in the county for more than 6 months due to the imposition of a strict lockdown to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
However, following the opening of Haryana schools for class 9 to12 students, a sharp increase was seen in the number of coronavirus cases among the students. To prevent more contamination, the state government had decided to shut down schools till November 30.
Along with Haryana many other states too were contemplating reopening schools after the announcement of Unlock 5 phase. Many of them are now re-considering or have halted their plans.
Meanwhile, the total active cases in Haryana stood at 20,400 cases. It remains one of the few states in India that is still showing positive growth in terms of cases. Most of the other places are seeing a sharp decline in the number of patients with active and new cases falling daily.
