Haryana Colleges to include NCC as Elective Subject in Graduation Courses

Haryana Colleges will now include National Cadet Corps (NCC) as the general elective credit course (GECC) in the educational institutes. The committee came to this decision after the proposal of the Directorate General, National Cadet Corps, New Delhi.

As per the National Education Policy 2020, candidates can now select subjects of their interest unlike previously where students were bound with limitations of the subjects offered by the university. This not only makes the learning more interesting but develops management and other essential skills of the student.

Brig A S Berar said, “It will undoubtedly add to the appeal of the largest uniformed youth force which has contributed immensely to the role of nation-building. The Rashtriya Uchiha Siksha Abhiyan (RUSH) state offices are encouraged to work with respective state governments and facilitate the implementation of NCC as an elective subject.”

Haryana Colleges: Credit System for NCC

The NCC syllabus content for Haryana Colleges is structured with respect to the credit-based system determined by National Educational Policy 2020. The NCC syllabus is carefully designed throughout six semesters comprising 24 credit points. Students need to obtain a total of four credits in the first two semesters, while 10 credits for the third-fourth and fifth-sixth semesters, respectively.

NCC’s official mentioned that the newly designed proposal of implementing NCC as an elective subject has received appreciation from the Haryana State Government. The UGC has already issued an advisory to the vice-chancellors across the state.

The credit points received by the students after successful completion of NCC will not only help them obtain their degree and also enhance the value of the degree itself.
