On the occasion of the International day of the World's Indigenous people, the Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, said that the Gujarat government has finally approved the establishment of five new medical colleges in tribal areas of the state.
Rupani, addressed that the Gujarat government will spend approximately INR 1,00,000 crore under the 'Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojna-2' during the next five years for the welfare of tribals. Further, the CM performed a virtual ground-breaking ceremony for the main campus of the 'Birsa Munda Tribal University', which will come up near Rajpipla town in the tribal-dominated Narmada district of Gujarat.
Moreover, he addressed the gathering by saying that his government has officially approved the setting up of five new medical colleges in tribal areas across the state. He added that it's a matter of great pride that a university in his name is being established. It can be noted that the university is being set up at a cost of INR 400 crore, and the university will help the youths in building and shaping their careers.
While celebrating the 'World Tribal Day' as a part of the nine-day events to mark his competition of five years as the state CM, Rupani spoke to the gathering. Following the resignation of incumbent Anandiben Patel, Rupani became the Chief Minister of Gujarat on August 7, 2016 and he continued in office after the BJPs victory in the 2017 Assembly polls.
The Birsa Munda Tribal University came into existence in 2017 and started its academic activities from a college in Rajpipla t, the following year. It was notified that the main campus, which will be set up at a cost of nearly INR 400 crore on 39 acre land, will also have hostels to accommodate 500 boys and girls, a sports complex, auditorium, laboratories, research centres and staff quarters.

Furthermore, PM Narendra Modi, when he was the Gujarat CM, had introduced the Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana (VKY) to gather all the tribals into the mainstream. Under the previous congress in the state, all the 52 tribal-dominated talukas of Gujarat were deprived of development, he added.
He further informed that till now, around INR 90,000 crore has been spent on various developmental works in those tribal areas under the scheme. The money was spent on education, health, infrastructure, agriculture and irrigation-related projects in tribal areas of the state.
Meanwhile, in the earlier budget, the state government had announced the launch of the second edition of VKY with a budget of INR 1,00,000 crore, during the next five years for the welfare of tribals in Gujarat, he concluded. The CM inaugurated the tribal-centric projects worth INR 487 crore and performed a virtual ground-breaking ceremony for upcoming projects amounting to INR 1,222 crore, during the occasion.
