GSEB Class 12 Exams to be Conducted from July 1, 683000 Students Registered; Read Full Report


The Gujarat government has announced that the state's Class 12 board exams will begin on July 1. The decision was made at a high-level meeting presided over by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and it is in the best interests of the state's 6.83 lakh Class 12 students.

In light of the state's current 'Corona' pandemic, the state government announced in a media statement on Tuesday that this decision was made after a detailed deliberation on conducting the board examinations for Class 12.

Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama confirmed the decision, saying that approximately 683,000 students will take their GSEB Class 12 exams. According to the report, nearly 140,000 of them will be in the science stream, while 543,000 will be in the general stream.

During the meeting, CM Rupani directed the education department to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocol when conducting the examinations.

The education minister stated that the examination will be held in accordance with the established traditional system of Science Stream Part-I for 50 marks using the Multiple Choice Type (MCQ) OMR method and Part-II for 50 marks using the descriptive written format. The examination will last three hours. In the case of general stream students, written descriptive exams worth 100 points will be administered.

According to Chudasama, “the education department has also been given instructions to ensure e that the students appearing in the examinations maintain social distancing, wear masks, and follow the ‘Corona' Transition Control Guidelines such as use of sanitizer, thermal gun, and others.”

The CM also directed the department to ensure that, during the current Corona situation, examination centres are located closer to students' homes. According to the media statement, "it was also decided to increase the number of examination centres in the state for this purpose."

Maximum of 20 students will be allowed in one classroom for both streams' examinations. Furthermore, every examination centre will be outfitted with CCTV cameras.

The meeting also decided that for students who will be unable to take the upcoming exams due to Covid-19 or other unavoidable reasons, fresh examinations of all subjects with a new time-table and fresh exam question papers will be held after 25 days. The examinations for repeater students in the tenth standard will be conducted in a similar manner, according to the education minister.
