The Central government has officially announced a 27% quota for OBCs and 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in the All-India Quota (AIQ) scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses from the current academic year, 2021-22.
The announcement was made by the central government today. It was notified by the health ministry in a statement, that this decision would benefit everyone, for around 1500 OBC students in MBBS, nearly 2500 OBC students in the post graduation, 550 EWS students in MBBS and almost 1000 EWS students in post graduation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it as a ‘landmark’ decision and said that the move will ‘immensely’ help thousands of youth every year. He tweeted that Indian government has taken a landmark decision for offering 27% reservation for OBCs and 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Section in the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/ dental courses from the current academic year, 2021-22. Further, he added that it will immensely help thousands of Indian youth every year to get better opportunities and create a new paradigm of social justice in the country.

According to the statement, PM Narendra Modi, in a meeting held on July 26, directed the concerned Union Ministers to facilitate an effective solution to the long-pending issue. Considering the move, OBC students from across the country will now be able to take the benefit of the reservation in the AIQ scheme to compete for seats in any state.
The All India Quota scheme was introduced in 1986, under the Supreme Court's orders to provide for domicile-free merit-based opportunities to the aspiring students from any state willing to study in a good medical college in another state. The AIQ consists of 15% of the total available UG seats and 50% of the total available PG seats in the government medical college.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister lauded the move as a “historic decision”. He tweeted that a historic decision has been taken by the Central Government in the medical education field in the country.
Furthermore, PM Narendra Modi addressed policy makers in the domain of education and skill development to mark one year of the National Education Policy 2020. In the meantime, PM Modi launched the National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR) and National Education Technology Forum (NETF), today.
